CEO, Hong Kong and Macao
Celia Lao is the CEO of AirAsia Hong Kong and Macao. AirAsia is the first and biggest low-cost carrier in Asia. Its global headquarter is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Celia started a career with AirAsia in 2004 as Country Manager - Greater China, and became the airline’s very first employee in the region. That same year she brought AirAsia to Macao, making the airline the first low cost carrier to operate international route into the Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Over the last 15 years, Celia has made great contributions to further AirAsia’s presence in the region. During this time, she has been rotating in different management positions and has accumulated significant experience in route planning, government affairs, regulatory, commercial, public relations and operations, laying a solid foundation for her to further develop and manage the airline’s business in Hong Kong and Macao.
From April 2010 to June 2017, Celia was the General Manager of Regulatory and Government Affairs in Greater China. She specialized in securing traffic rights, route permits and licensing for AirAsia Group’s route expansion to Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Over the seven years, she had built a good relationship with local government, airport authorities and all relevant stakeholders. During her tenure, the route network in Greater China grew to 448 weekly flights across 58 routes to 19 destinations in mainland China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
